Important Seasonal News for Our Clients

Dear Bass Lake Pet Owners,
We wanted to make you aware that over the past 4 months, we have diagnosed 3 dogs from separate households with Heartworm disease. As you know, this is a disease with a high fatality rate. This sudden increase in cases tells us that the mosquito population in Minnesota on the whole is carrying more Heartworm.
At the same time that we have seen this increase, there has been a nationwide shortage and cessation of manufacturing of Immiticide- the only drug that can be used to treat Heartworm positive dogs. This means that if a dog is diagnosed with Heartworm there is in essence no way to save his life.
Please schedule to have your dog’s Heartworm bloodwork done if he or she has been off of Heartworm preventative. If you have never used Heartworm preventative for your dog, this is an important time to start.

Here are a few reminders for you and your dog as the summer winds down to a close.
Heatstroke: There are many hot days still ahead, so be sure your dog has plenty of water and shade.

Separation Anxiety: We now carry the Thundershirt! Stop in and ask us about this great product and how it can help with almost any anxiety, from thunderstorms to separation to car anxiousness. It comes with a 45-day money back guarantee!

Ticks: Ticks are in full force this year and we are here to help! Ask us about the products that best protect your pet from these pests and the diseases they carry.

Heartworm:
Remember that heartworm disease is spread through mosquitoes, therefore outdoor AND indoor animals are at risk. Protect your animals with a monthly preventative that not only prevents heartworm, but also intestinal parasites!

We all have hectic schedules, but our pets love a consistent routine. Try to keep your pets walks, feedings, and annual exams on routine as you gear up for the coming school year and all the changes it brings.
